Caramel Apples

Ingredients

  • 8 ea- wooden chopsticks for handles 

  • 2 C- packed brown sugar 

  • 1 ea-  (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk 

  • 1 C- light corn syrup 

  • 1 C- butter 

  • 2 tsp- vanilla extract 

  • 3 DROPS- almond extract  

  • Any desired toppings. No rules  

  • Tools
  • Saucepan

  • Candy thermometer

  • Rubber spatula

  • Sheet pan

  • Parchment paper

  • Pan spray

Method

  • If using store bought apples, rinse in boiling hot water to remove the waxy coating.
  • Combine all ingredients except the peanuts in a medium size saucepan and slowly bring to a boil.
  • Using a candy thermometer, heat the mixture to 245 degrees. During this process constant stirring is required. With sticks for handles dip and twirl the apples in the caramel and place and a sprayed parchment.
  • Sprinkle on or roll your apples in your favorite topping. Allow your apples to cool down to room temp and then refrigerate to firm up the caramel.
